BASEBALL TEAM BEATEN BY CAMERON

Southwestern Oklahoma State University watches record drop to 6-3 on the season as Cameron University uses nine different pitchers in a 7-2 win.

WEATHERFORD, Okla. -- Southwestern Oklahoma State University’s baseball team was beaten by instate rival Cameron University in a single, nine-inning game Tuesday in Weatherford by a score of 7-2.

The Bulldogs, now 6-3 on the season, will next play Thursday at Hillsdale Baptist College before returning home against NAIA power Oklahoma Baptist on Tuesday.

SWOSU jumped to an early 2-0 lead as the first two batters – Andre Yates and Kevin Cantrell – each reached with a single. Both runners scored as Adam Gendell followed two batters later with a hard-hit single for his fourth and fifth RBI’s of the season.

The Bulldogs would score no more as Cameron used nine different pitchers in the game, each pitching an inning before Aggie Coach Todd Holland moved to the next one.

Cameron scored six of their seven runs in their half of the fourth. Travis Lyons had the big hit with a three-run homer that put the Aggies in front 6-2 after three and one-half innings.

SWOSU’s Earl Jenkins took the loss in relief of starter Cailyn Young. Jenkins was roughed up with five hits and gave up four runs, all of which were earned. His record tipped to 0-1.

Cameron’s Justin Watley got the win by pitching the third inning, the inning before Cameron’s big scoring surge.
